Regional Policy Theory (Lecture)
Do you know how many local governments there are in Japan? There are over 1,700 local governments across the country, and each one is working on various practices to realize a rich local community. However, each region faces a variety of challenges, such as a declining birthrate and aging population, the decline of the local economy, and multicultural coexistence. On the other hand, there are many success stories that make use of local resources, and learning about them is an important clue when thinking about the future of the region. The keyword in today's society is "citizen collaboration." There is a growing movement to solve local issues through cooperation not only between the government but also between citizens, companies, NPOs, etc. In this lecture, we will learn about such advanced cases and think about what is happening in the field of local policy. In addition to introducing real cases that make use of the teacher's own practical experience in local government, we will invite guest speakers who are active in the forefront of local government and town development to deliver real voices from the field. How do we deal with local issues and what policies are being implemented? Let's think about the state of local policies together while feeling the reality, and cultivate a perspective to face our own town.

He will take up a post at Teikyo University Faculty of Law in 2022, where he will teach and conduct research, focusing on local government and public policy.
Where do you get your political information from? SNS, TV, or newspapers? When asked this question, many students answer SNS. In actual elections, it is said that SNS influenced the results of the Tokyo gubernatorial election, the House of Representatives election, and the Hyogo gubernatorial election, and last year was even called the first year of SNS elections. This current situation may seem normal to you, but it is a dramatic change in media theory, which has focused on television and newspapers. In this class, a reporter from Kyodo News and a teacher who has worked in both the political and media worlds as an aide to the Prime Minister in the Yoshihide Suga Cabinet will talk about the relationship between "politics and media" using their own experiences. Politics has a great impact on your present and future, including examples of modern elections in the "smartphone politics" era, where SNS and smartphones drive politics, as well as taxes and social insurance premiums. Let's learn together how we should deal with politics and the media that conveys that information.
